Examples
of Charts from the Mentoring Sessions Rating System (MSRS)

Chart One displays
the aspects of student learning and youth development that were promoted
during the mentoring sessions. During the mentoring sessions, the most
time was devoted to promoting students' social competence, future orientation,
and reflective thought. The aspects of development that received far
less attention were coping (the ability to quickly recover one's healthiest
sense of self during and after challenging social situations), solving
problems in social situations, and self-assessment as a learner.

Chart Two indicates
that the sessions focused a great deal on students' responsible decision-making
regarding health, cultural competence, and positive attitudes toward
family. Of particular note, the sessions were far less likely to address
positive attitudes towards competency in thinking, greater sense of
self, and positive attitude toward school.
